Recognition for a Forests Ontario Member: Landowner Bill Farrington Has Planted 19,000 Trees

Posted: 2022.04.20

As we celebrate Earth Day this April 22, Forests Ontario would also like to recognize our members who are integral to the success of our many programs. Every now and then, a member will also have participated in our flagship tree planting program, the 50 Million Tree Program (50 MTP). Learn more about Bill Farrington, a long-standing Forests Ontario member and a landowner through the 50 MTP!

Ten years ago, Bill planted more than 19,000 trees through the 50 MTP, and that newly created forest continues to thrive to this day. The following year, he become a Forests Ontario member, thanks to a referral by Eleanor Reed, a Field Advisor in Simcoe region. Bill, a father of 5, grandfather of 14, and great grandfather of 7, decided to become a member of Forests Ontario to learn more about tree planting and to support increased forest cover in Ontario. “Climate change is really scary… and every tree that stores carbon helps from a climate change perspective” Bill recently told Brooke McClelland, Forests Ontario’s Donations & Membership Coordinator.

Bill appreciates that his forest also supports the wildlife on his property, including bear, deer, rabbits, and fishers. As a member of Forests Ontario, he has opportunities throughout the year to connect with other members, Forests Ontario staff, and forestry professionals, and learn more about how healthy forests contribute to healthy communities, and so much more. “What resonates with me is the feeling that you can support forest management and creation, and educate people on the importance and significance of all aspects of forestry, and contribute to climate control.”
