Planting Urban Forests in our Communities

Posted: 2025.05.15

On May 4, 2025, over 150 volunteers from across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond gathered to plant 500 native trees and shrubs at Carrville Park in Richmond Hill, adding to the City’s growing urban forest. This Community Tree Plant event was a Forests Canada collaboration with LEAF, the City of Richmond Hill and York Region, and was made possible by the generous support of the RBC Foundation.

Did you know that urban forests provide numerous physical, mental and social health benefits? Trees and forests provide shade and cool local environments such as our homes, they sequester carbon to help mitigate the harmful effects of climate change, they act as a windbreak to reduce erosion and help improve soil and water quality, just to name a few of many reasons why our forested landscapes are essential to sustain life and communities.

A special thank you to everyone who joined us on the day. Carrville Park is now home to a new urban forest that many will enjoy today and for years to come.
