Forests Canada Monthly Donor Spotlight – Kim Sellers

Kim Sellers, Director of Business Development at Forests Canada, is more than just a staff member, she’s also a monthly donor.

“I wanted to support in this way because I see the trajectory and growth of the organization.” She also supports because she’s aware of the need for it and the value that her contributions bring. “We need to help garner more support for our forests, to create new forests and to maintain our existing forests, to ensure they’re healthy," she says. "If my monthly support can help to bring our forests to where they need to be, I’m happy to contribute in this way.”

Always a desire to work with nature in some capacity, it was a job in Sault Ste. Marie that really gave way to Kim’s love and appreciation for the outdoors and trees. From being in the forest, to visiting colleagues’ camps, to doing site visits, and even winter camping, she really enjoyed being outdoors among the forests.

Though there are many different ways in which she could contribute financially, she chose the monthly giving option because “I want to make sure my contribution can grow, making sure I’m able to contribute on a monthly basis at a level that works for my family.”

Kim isn’t the only one with a love for forests, her two kids also enjoy being outdoors. When we asked her why she encourages her kids to connect with forests, she tells us it’s because she sees how much fun they have in the forest near their home. “I hear from them that they have the most fun in the forests with their friends, building forts and playing games. It’s where they spend most of their time,” she says.

Talking to her about why she contributes to Forests Canada not only as a staff member and volunteer, but as a monthly donor as well, it’s the belief in the organization that drives her to donate. “I believe in the staff, and the mission and vision. I have every confidence that the organization can achieve their goals and more.”

Supporting tree planting and education is important for too many reasons to name, Sellers says. “There’s the health benefit, the social benefit, but I see the value. Not just for me, not just for my family, I see the long term value and need to support our forests.”

“What our forests need is more love, care and attention through planting, long term stewardship and maintenance, and that’s why I want to support.”

We couldn’t have said it better!
