Keilhauer is improving their environmental impact by choosing wood and supporting Forests Ontario.

As a company that manufactures seating and tables for all the different ways people work, their products also prioritize environmental sustainability. From responsible material selection and procurement, to reducing the embodied carbon within their products, Keilhauer remains as committed as ever to being design activists who make work more comfortable for all.

When you think about the environmental impact of a product, you need to think of every stage of its production - from design to manufacturing and disposal. Through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), all the environmental impacts are considered when making a finished product. Wood is found to have a clear environmental advantage. Wood uses less energy in production, produces less air and water pollution, is renewable, and its overall carbon footprint is lower. These are all important factors to be considered when doing an LCA.

Most importantly, because wood is a renewable resource, we know that if we manage it in a good way, we will have resources for generations.

“At Keilhauer, we understand that the world has limited resources and that we are merely caretakers for future generations. We strive to become a sustainable company. Our goal is to carry as light a footprint as we can.” – Joshua Belczyk, Sustainability Officer, Keilhauer.

Forests are the centre of our lives. They help clean our air and water, provide habitat for animals and boost biodiversity, not to mention offer various ways to enjoy nature. Forests also provide the wood products that make our lives better.
