Building Strong Forests with TC Energy’s Build Strong Program

The Objective

TC Energy and Forests Ontario have a shared goal of greening the communities in which we live, work and play, and have shaped a meaningful strategy to achieve it. By forging a partnership with Forests Ontario’s 50 Million Tree Program, TC Energy has taken great strides towards its commitment to protecting and enhancing the environment by supporting large-scale tree planting programs and creating new healthy, thriving forests across Ontario.

The Background

TC Energy’s community giving program, Build Strong, supports organizations that are integral to local communities including those that make a difference by protecting sensitive ecological landscapes and restoring wildlife habitats. With Forests Ontario’s extensive network of partners and comprehensive tree planting programs, TC Energy can accomplish these goals by increasing the health and wellness of the communities they serve and helping to make our forests and natural environment more resilient to climate change.

The Strategic Approach

Through the Build Strong program, TC Energy is partnering with Forests Ontario to increase forest cover in Ontario through large-scale tree planting and effective forest management. They have also supported Forests Ontario’s 2022 Annual Conference, which brings together sector professionals, partners, educators, community leaders and others to learn about, contribute to and explore opportunities, challenges and trends that are integral to a healthy natural environment. Employee involvement is also an important part of TC Energy’s Build Strong program, creating future volunteering opportunities for their workforce to be part of their efforts to enhance the environment in their own communities. “Getting everyone involved on every level will help build the community and Ontario’s forests for future generations,” adds TC Energy.

The Results

TC Energy’s contribution to Forests Ontario supported the planting of 5,000 trees this year and includes maintenance and monitoring to ensure that each tree is successful and can grow to create healthy ecosystems in communities across Ontario.

To date, Forests Ontario’s 50 Million Tree Program has planted more than 36,000,000 trees, resulting in over 18,000 hectares of new forests. Together with our sponsors, Forests Ontario’s integral tree planting programs will continue to grow, ensuring our efforts today thrive and grow into healthy, diverse forests of tomorrow, and for generations to come.
